Leech

Leech

Materials

  • Hook: Size 8-12 3X Long
  • Thread: Color to Match the body
  • Body: Mohair
  • Weight: Lead Wire for weight
  • Tail: Maribou color to match the body





Tying Instructions

  1. Mount the hook and wind the lead wire around the hook. The lead wire should leave one and one-half eye lenght behind the eye and end on the shank above the point.
  2. Select an appropriate color of maribou and tie it on the end of the hook shank behind the lead wire. Pinch the maribou to the length of the shank.
  3. Tie on a lengh of mohair ending at the rear of the hook. Wind the thread forward.
  4. Wrap the mohair forward pulling out fibers as the hair is wrapped forward. Tie off and trim the mohair.
  5. Form a head, tie off and cement.
  6. With the blade of your scissors (blunt side) pull out mohair fibers to give the leech a fuzzy look.

Variations

The Leech can be tied in several colors with the most popular being olive, black, rusty-red or blond.
